The Other Salsa

This is a project that slowly grew out of my interest of utilizing some materials from the Afro Caribbean music into my works. So far I have written five pieces that independently explore this possibility. As they become more, I have come to the realization that it is time to put them all together as a single unit; this is what I call “The Other Salsa.” The range of these works is wide and goes from large ensemble to improvisation with electronics, passing through chamber ensembles of different sizes.

The plan for this project is to arrangement all the pieces for a singular ensemble, to do a concert and to record them as an album. This is still in the works but might be happening soon!

This are the list of pieces I have developed so far:

This projects has been greatly influenced by my salsa band Hecho A Mano that we started in Austin with a couple of friends. In way the band started after my reconciliation with salsa music, and I wrote some of the pieces above because I felt encouraged an enriched by the many concerts we had with the guys.
