Two Questions About Time

For Percussion Quartet. AKA = a bunch of instruments. (2016-2017)

The piece questions the linearity of time and leans more towards its conception in a cyclical manner. In this other mindset, events are constantly repeated but always in a different manner. The ending goes back to the beginning, the spiral moves outwards and inwards. For the premiere, instead of writing program notes, I decided to give the audience a couple of drawings I made. These drawings show the cyclical and spiral structure of each movement of the piece.

It was a pleasure to work with the guys from Third Coast Percussion. Never had I felt so confortable working with an ensemble of their reputation. The structure of their Emerging Composer Program is such that there is actually a chance to workshop the piece and of going back and forth before it is delivered. This is a quite unique scheme for collaboration. Please apply!

In 2019, the Spanish percussion ensemble Alxarq won the VII Chamber Ensemble Competition “Percute” with this piece in their repertoire. This competition is organized by the legendary Spanish percussion ensemble Amores.
