Sax quartet. Written for Joe Rulli and Ellision sax quartet. (2015)
This piece has five movements, three of them are titled “Cycles.” These syncopated patterns, repeat multiple times in an open reference to popular music also creating a reference to dance. For the the other two contrasting movements, “Victims” and “Emptiness,” I used the number 5.405.629 to create melodies and harmonies, this number comes from a report by the Colombian journal “Semana.” In this extensive research, this number represents the “official” count of victims during the Colombian conflict.
